Valid ID is necessary to gain access to a workstation on campus.

To use a computer in any Library lab (Lower Level, 1st floor, and 2nd floor of the Library, as well as in the Library Café), you must give your ID card to the staff member at the corresponding service desk. You will then be assigned a computer based on availability. Please use only the computer to which you are assigned.

During busy periods, you can use a workstation for 60 minutes at a time on the 1st and 2nd floors, and 90 minutes at a time on the Lower Level. (You will be notified when your time expires. Please respect the time limit and relinquish your computer when that limit has been reached.) Priority is given to Brooklyn College students followed by CUNY students and others.

You do not need an ID card to use the CUNY catalog look-up stations or the express machines.

For a list of the public computer labs, including type of equipment and number of stations, along with up-to-the-minute information on computer use (including availability of stations and estimated wait time), see http://websql.brooklyn.cuny.edu/lab/.

Computer labs are located on the 1st Floor, 2nd Floor, and Lower Level, as well as in the Library Cafe.

There are hundreds of PCs and a dozen Macs available to all library users:

Additionally, there are computer labs located in the Library Café (65 PCs and 10 Macs) and WEB (hundreds of computers, including PCs, Macs, and Sun/UNIX machines).

You may check computer availability at http://websql.brooklyn.cuny.edu/lab/.

The Faculty Development Lab and Multimedia Classrooms are available on the 3rd Floor.

11 PCs and 4 Macs are available for use by faculty and staff in the Faculty Development Lab and 32 PCs and 27 Macs in the Multimedia Classrooms, and include access to the Internet, Microsoft Office, and additional software such as statistical and graphics packages. (You can view list of software installed in this area.) Please consult Book-a-Room for availability.

Several PCs on every floor are available to all library users and provide access to the online catalog.

As a currently registered student, you have access to free printing.

Currently enrolled Brooklyn College students have access to free B&W printouts. (Color printing is not included in a student's free printing account.) The exact number of free printouts depends on your student status. For example, most full-time undergraduate students receive 300 free B&W printouts per semester. Graduate students receive 200 printouts per class with a maximum of 600 B&W printouts per semester. At the end of the semester all free balances (unused free printouts) expire and are reset for the next semester. There is no roll-over or stock-piling of unused free printouts.

All other Library users must create accounts before printing. For instructions, please see the Printing FAQ page. Alternatively, you may pick up a printing information pamphlet at any service desk.

For more information regarding the printing system (including costs, printer locations, instructions for checking your remaining balance, and so on), please see the Library's Printing service page.

There are several self-service scanners available in the Library and Library Cafe.

To use a scanner, check one out from:

Please see the staff member at the appropriate service desk for assistance in obtaining and using a scanner.

Wireless computing is available at specific locations throughout the library.

To access the Internet wirelessly, you must be a Brooklyn College student, faculty, or staff member with an active Brooklyn College email account. Your BC email username and password are also the username and password to log onto the wireless network. (If you do not know this information, please see the WebCentral Help page on obtaining your BC email ID and password.)

Your laptop or other wireless device must be configured to work with our wireless network. To get your laptop configured, visit the computer lab on the 1st floor of the West End Building (WEB) (M-F, 9-5), call (718) 951-5787, or visit http://bc-wifi.brooklyn.cuny.edu.

Wireless access is available at specific locations around campus and throughout the library: see floor plans of the wireless network at the Brooklyn College Library and learn how to get started.
