Reserves

To find out if the Library subscribes to an electronic journal, check the E-Journals Finder. You can also identify journals that cover specific subject areas.

NB: The Library has research guides to help you with identifying articles and locating the full text.

E-reserve materials will be found in your Blackboard course site. (For help with accessing Blackboard, please click here.)

All periodicals are located on the Lower Level of the Library.

Current print periodicals (journals, magazines, and newspapers — all of which are published on a regular schedule) are located on the Lower Level, to the left as you exit the elevators or the grand staircase. They are organized alphabetically by journal title. Newspapers are located on the left side of the room and are arranged according to title.

Older print journals (in bound volumes) are located on the Lower Level across from the elevators. Journals from 1980 until the present time are shelved in the front section; pre-1980 periodicals are located in the back section. Bound periodicals are organized according to the Library of Congress Classification system. Search the catalog by journal title (not article title!) to see journal locations.

NB: The Library has research guides to help you with identifying articles and locating the full text. Alternatively, you may ask for help.

Periodicals do not circulate.
Faculty may inquire at the Current Periodicals Desk on the Lower Level of the Library about exceptions. The Desk may also be reached at (718) 951-5333.
Reserve materials do not circulate.

Items placed on on-site reserve by instructors — books, articles, and personal copies — may be requested at the Reserves Desk on the 1st floor of the library. In order to identify an item that is on reserve, you must check the CUNY+ catalog and confirm that it is available in Brooklyn Reserve.

Books on reserve are available for short periods of time. These loan periods allow many students to have access to the materials:

  • Items placed on 2-hour Reserve loans are for Library use only.
  • Items placed on 3-day Reserve loans may be checked out.
