You can submit a request using the WorldCat database (the same resource that the Interlibrary Loan staff use to borrow books for you). Ten thousand libraries worldwide contribute their holdings to WorldCat which has over 70 million records. To access WorldCat, go to the Library's home page (http://library.brooklyn.cuny.edu), click on databases, scroll down to WorldCat and click to open. If you need assistance accessing WorldCat ask at the Information Services Desk or the Interlibrary Loan Office.
|
Firstly, you must connect to WorldCat. You can either access it directly or by viewing the databases list on the Library's homepage. (Scroll down the to the Ws and select WorldCat.)
Secondly, you must create an account. To do this, go to My Account and click on New User Registration.
Subsequently:
- Go to the icon on the toolbar that says Resource Sharing to check on the status of the books you have already requested.
- Click on Searching to find your item.
- When you find the record you are looking for, check to see if the item is available in the Brooklyn College Library or another CUNY Library. (If it is, please click on Libraries worldwide that own item to be linked to the CUNY Library that owns the item. Then use CLICS to request it.) Otherwise, click on Borrow this item from another library (Interlibrary Loan). The request form will be filled in all except for your barcode and department. Please fill in this information to ensure that your request gets processed quickly.
- Click on the Submit button.
|
With one click, you can see if a book is held by Brooklyn College, another CUNY library, or elsewhere. If it is held by any CUNY library, you can click on the title and be sent right to the record in CUNY+. Once there, if it's in any CUNY library other than Brooklyn, you can place a request online for the book through the CLICS service. If it is not in CUNY, you can easily initiate an ILL request in WorldCat.
Requesting books through WorldCat means less keyboarding for you and for the ILL staff. The result is that the request is sent to the borrower more quickly and hence, the waiting time for your book is shorter!
|
Please contact the ILL staff if you have any questions.
|
Requested items are to be picked up at the Circulation Desk.
Items requested through CLICS or ILL can be picked up from and returned to the Circulation Desk on the first floor of the Library to the right of the entrance.
