Where can I get help with my research?
To see if the Library owns a particular item, search the catalog.
Check the Library's catalog, CUNY+, to see if we own an item. You can search for Library items by keyword, title, author, subject, call number, or ISBN/ISSN number to determine if Brooklyn or another CUNY Library (by clicking on All CUNY Libraries under "Select library") owns the item. The catalog will give the call number and location of the item and indicate whether the item is available for loan or whether it is already charged out to another person. A date and/or time listed under "Due Date" indicates that the item is charged out and is due on that date; "Look On Shelf" instructs you to look for the item on the appropriate shelf, as it should be available for use.
NB: The Library has research guides to help you use the catalog.

Holds can be placed on books that are charged out of the Library.
If you locate the book you wish to borrow in CUNY+ but find that it is charged out to another patron, you may place a "hold" on that item:
- Click on the orange Request this Copy button.
- Enter your 14 digit barcode number that is on the back of your valid ID card. (Do not include spaces or dashes.)
- Enter your password. If you have not created a password, enter your 14 digit barcode number again.
- Make sure that "Brooklyn" is selected as the pickup library. (Unless, of course, you wish to pick up the book from a different CUNY Library.)
- If you don't need the book after a certain date, enter that date in the format YYYYMMDD in Period of Interest field. (In most cases, you want to leave this field as-is.)
- Click on Go.
- A message will come up letting you know whether the hold request was successful.

You can use ILL to request books not owned by this or any other CUNY Library.
First verify, via Online Catalog, that the book is not available in Brooklyn College or in CUNY libraries. If it is owned by CUNY, request via CLICS. If it is not available in BC or CUNY, click here: ILL REQUEST FORM.
|
Use CUNY Libraries Inter-Campus Services (CLICS) to request an item from another CUNY Library.
If you find a book in CUNY+ that is not in the Brooklyn College Library but is available at another CUNY library, you can use CLICS to request that it be sent to our Library for you to pick up. You will be notified by email when the book is available.
To use CLICS, your e-mail address must be in your library circulation record. Stop by the Circulation Desk or call (718) 951-5335 to verify that it has been entered. An e-mail notification will be sent to you when the book is available. The book will be available to you within 24 to 48 hours of your request. If the book is not available, you will receive an e-mail notice.

You can ask a reference, research, or informational question at any service desk in the Library.
